PURPOSE:To improve the joining strength of composite materials consisting of metallic fibers and metallic matrices by removing the metallic matrices on the joint surfaces of the composite materials, coating insert materials on the end faces thereon, butting the end faces and subjecting the same to solid phase bonding. CONSTITUTION:In the stage of joining composite materials consisting of metallic fibers F or intermetallic compd. fibers and metallic matrices M, first the joint surfaces of the composite materials are worked flat. The metallic matrices M are then removed by etching or the like to project the fibers F. Insert materials Mi of gold or the like are coated by plating or the like on the end faces of the metallic matrices M of at least one joint surface. Such composite materials are butted to each other, and are held for a specified time under heating and pressurizing, whereby the materials are subjected to solid phase bonding. Not only the fibers F but also the matrices are securely joined to each other by the above-mentioned method. |
