PURPOSE:To drive effectively a charge transfer image pickup device, by making a detected threshold voltage and the middle value of a ternary level pulse, which is applied to a vertical shift register of the charge transfer image pickup device, coincident with each other and making potential differences between maximum and minimum values and the middle value of this pulse constant. CONSTITUTION:A circuit 51 detects a threshold of a gate region 5, and circuit 52 generates the ternary level pulse applied to the vertical shift register of a charge transfer image pickup device 53. The threshold voltage detected by the circuit 51 and the middle value of the ternary level pulse generated by the circuit 52 are made coincident with each other by a circuit 54, and differences between maximum and minimum values and the middle value of the ternary level pulse are held in an optional constant voltage by the circuit 54. A circuit 55 generates another pulse required for driving the device 53, and a photoelectrically converted signal is outputted from a terminal 56. |
