PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for 8-nylon in high yield in easy steps, by isomerizing 2,7-octadien-1-ol, oxidizing the resultant 2,7-octen-1-al with oxygen, brominating the 7-octenoic acid, and aminating the resultant 8-bromocaprylic acid. CONSTITUTION:2,7-Octadien-1-ol of formulaIis isomerized in the presence of a copper type and chromium type catalyst, e.g. reduced copper or copper-chromium oxide, to give 7-octen-1-al, which is then oxidized with oxygen in the presence of an oxidation catalyst, e.g. a cobalt salt or copper salt, in the liquid phase to afford 7-octenoic acid. The resultant 7-octenoic acid is then reacted with hydrogen bromide in the poresence of oxygen and/or free radical catalyst, e.g. ozone or lauryl peroxide, to give 8-bromocaprylic acid, which is further reacted with ammonia to afford the aimed substance of formula II. |
