PURPOSE:To obtain a good multicolor record even by using developing methods different in necessary latent image intensity, by variably controlling surface potential in forming a latent image on a latent image-forming medium. CONSTITUTION:A photoreceptor 1 is uniformly electrostatically charged with an initial charger 2, and exposure of an image corresponding to red is executed with an exposure station 3. At that time, exposure of the station 3 is controlled with an exposure controller 15 to give a surface potential of a photoreceptor 1 enough to give sufficient recording density in a primary development requiring low intensity of a latent image. Then, development is carried out by the magnetic brush developing method using a 2-component type red toner in a developing device 4, and the photoreceptor 1 is exposed to a light image corresponding to black in an exposure station 6, developing bias voltage is applied in a developing device 7, and development is executed by the one-component magnetic toner developing method using a black high-resistivity magnetic toner, thus obtaining sufficient recording density as high as the primary development. |
