PURPOSE:To remove a foreign matter caught by the edge of a cleaning blade, by allowing the cleaning blade in a press-contacting state to leave and come into press contact with instantaneously during the movement of a photoreceptor. CONSTITUTION:A cleaning device 2 for removing residual toner on the surface of the photoreceptor 1 consists of the cleaning blade 3, a holding means B consisting of holding members 4 and 6, etc., a press-contacting means C for bringing the blade 3 into press contact with the surface of the photoreceptor 1 by allowing the elastic force of a pressure impressing spring 8 to operate on the end shaft part 7 of the holding member 6, and a leaving means E consisting of a separating lever 10, a solenoid 17, etc. To remove a foreign matter caught by the edge of the cleaning blade 3, the solenoid 17 is turned on and off instantaneously in a very short time such as an idle time right after starting operation or after a copying short time such as an idle time right after starting operation or after a copying cycle, and consequently the foreign matter sticking to the edge is removed and carried away by the photoreceptor 1. |
