PURPOSE:To improve the quality of cocoons while shortening the breeding period, by incorporating an oxy compound, e.g. auxin, as a growth promoting substance for silkworms to a feed for the silkworms. CONSTITUTION:A feed for silkworms, prepared by incorporating an oxy compound, e.g. an indole compound, phenyl compound, phenoxy compound, naphthalene compound or naphthoxy compound as an auxin, and capable of exhibiting the increasing effect on the bodyweight in an amount of 0.00001-0.001% based on an aritificial feed in an amount of 1X10<-4>mg-1.0mg based on 20,000 silkworms added to mulberry leaves, and in an amount of (1/10) or less of that of the addition to the mulberry leaves for the percutaneous absorption. The silkworms absorbed the compound exhibit the increase in the body weight in any period of yound and matured silkworms, and silkworms taking in the feed not only exhibit the increasing effect on the cocoon weight but also shorten the breeding fifth-instar period. |
