Gripping device with a handle 2, against which a jaw with a gripping surface 12 can move between an open position and a gripping position under the action of a slide 16, which can shift along the handle 2 between two end positions. During a first part of the movement, the slide 16 brings the jaw 10 along the handle 2 and during a second part of the movement the slide 16 causes the jaw 10 to swing between the open position and the gripping position.
