PURPOSE:To make the number of transfer stages of vertical CCDs and that of photodetectors toward vertical direction equal without deteriorating sensitivity, by forming electrodes of the 3rd layer, so as to cover a gap between the electrodes of the 1st layer and the 2nd layer. CONSTITUTION:In the horizontal direction, photo diodes PD5-1,...5-i,... being the photodetector section, and vertical CCD channels 6-1, 6-2,... are arranged alternately, and on the vertical CCD channels, the 1st layer transfer electrodes 20-1,... 20-i,... and the 2nd layer transfer electrodes 21-1,..., 20-i are provided with gaps 22-1,..., 22-i,.... The 3rd layer electrodes 23-1, 23-2,... being continuous in the vertical direction are formed. Further, the signal electrodes are transferred by applying the three phase clock to the 1st, the 2nd and the 3rd electrodes. Thus, the number of the vertical CCD transfer stages and that of the PDs in the vertical direction are made equal without reduction of the photodetector area, allowing to apply this device to an image pickup device for a highly precise TV. |
