CATALYTIC REACTION PROCESS

A liq. or a substance dissolved in a liq. is caused to react with a gas which is only slightly sol. in the liq. in the presence of noncarbonaceous ceramic or polymer catalyst. This process is esp. advantageous for oxidn. and redn. of org.compds. and inorg. inos for disposal of waste waters and recovery of valuable substances. Thus, porous cylindrical PTFE was impregnated with a PrOH soln. of chloroplatinic acid to support Pt in an amt. of -0.5 wt.%. The supported catalyst was reduced 2 hr at 200≦̸C in a H stream, and 10 g of the catalyst was added to a soln. 20 mL MeOH in 200 mL H2O. O2 was passed into the soln. at 50≦̸C in the form of fine bubbles at 1L/min. After 1hr, 35% of the MeOH had been converted to H2CO.
