PROCESS FOR PREPARING CRYSTALLINE 3-HYDROXY CEPHALOSPORIN SOLVATES

Cephalosporin solvents of formula (I) are new. In (I) X is CH3COOH, CH2CH2COOH, or CH3OH when n=1, X is CH3COOH, or Y2CH2Cl2 when n=0. All 6 solvates are specifically claimed. they are e.g. prepd. by reacting corresp. cephem or its sulphoxide with 1 mole acetic or propionic acid. (I) represent a useful method for isolating and purifying 4-nitrobenzyl 7-phenoxyacetamido-3-hydroxy-3-cephem-4-carboxylate which is an intermediate in conversion of penicillins to antibiotic cephalosporins.
