Pedestrian-controlled crossing lights - provide extended crossing period when card issued for reduced mobility is inserted in control box

The set of pedestrian crossing lights are automatically controlled by a unit which provides a normal safe crossing period in response to a signal from one or the other control box arranged at the respective ends of the crossing. Each control box is provided with a reader for cards issued to persons with reduced mobility. On insertion of a card, the reader provides a different signal to the control unit whose response then provides an extended crossing period.
