Component in concrete etc. is provided with a plastics layer to provide protection against corrosion in use, such as in the case of a concrete storage tank or pipeline section. This cover layer contains an overlap join or a butt join with joining strip. A metal e.g. Cu, wire arranged between the layers forming the join extends in longitudinal direction of the join at a short distance parallel to an edge thereof. This wire permits carrying out a high-frequency spark test to ensure that the join is fully sealed.
