The invention relates to a sensor to be mounted in the open in order to measure the brightness of the uncovered sky, which consists of a "shadow housing" whose inner wall is painted black, the housing having an upper covering surface with a light inlet opening into which the sunlight which is representative of the "zenith brightness" falls. Furthermore, there is provided below the light inlet opening of the housing a brightness meter which is at a prescribed distance from this light inlet opening and which generates electrical signals in interaction with the quantity of light, and moreover there are provided, likewise at prescribed distances from one another, in the "shadow housing", partitions which extend at right angles to the connecting line between the light inlet opening and the brightness meter and of which each has a light passage opening, thus preventing light which could be reflected by the inner wall of the housing from falling onto the brightness meter.
