The invention relates to a pattern-selection device, especially for those sewing machines in which a very large number of stitch patterns is to be stored in the form of stitch-pattern data. According to the invention, a pattern-selection device has been produced in which the number of stitch patterns to be displayed is not determined by the surface size of a roller. Switch keys and pattern indicators are therefore assigned to a pattern tape which can be guided by one or more rollers. By actuating the selector wheel, specific signals are transmitted to the stitch-pattern control circuit of the sewing machine by means of electrical switching elements which are connected to a printed circuit board. The device according to the invention can also be employed in other sectors of industry.
