Use of pipework as LV conductor in heating installations - by using step-down transformer to supply current at low voltage to pipework, with electricity heating thermostatic regulators

The pipework in a building is used to carry low voltage electric currents supplying the heating elements of the thermostatic control valves of the heating radiators. The heating elements used in the installation are of the self-regulating CTP ceramic type, limiting the current drawn by the heater as the temp. increases. Each heater is mounted on an isolating sleeve which surrounds a break in the pipework providing electrical isolation between sections of pipework but preventing loss of water at the break. The electric supply to the pipework is derived from the a.c. mains through a step down transformer with its secondary connected on opposite sides of a sleeved break.
