Drum-type weft accumulator - with low-inertia flyer mechanism driven by electric motor of double-cylindrical construction

Loom which withdraws the weft from a stationary supply package has a weft accumulator comprising a stationary drum around which the yarn is wound by a rotating flyer which is mounted on the lightweight rotor of an electric motor having an axial channel along which is fed the weft. The stator of the motor is an annulus of U-shaped cross-section forming a double cylinder. The rotor is similarly in the form of a double cylinder of conducting, non-magnetic material, whose outer wall is located between the two walls of the stator, the inner wall supporting the rotor in bearings inside the inner stator cylinder. The rotating parts of the mechanism have a low inertia, therefore respond quickly to stop and start signals. This gives greater precision of the length of weft wound, reduces the number of weft breaks, and improves weaving efficiency and prod. quality.
