A method for working the edge of dish-shaped ceramic vessels in the unfired, leathery state is undertaken by means of a wire clamped in a tension bracket, which wire is on the one hand rotated relatively to the vessel and on the other hand is displaced relatively thereto in the axial direction. The rotary movement is appropriately coupled with the reciprocal movement. An apparatus for carrying out this method achieves the coupling of the two movements by means of a cam disc which is scanned at its end face.
