Method for the automatic detection of suspicious objects in images of optronic observing or monitoring systems which have an optronic image sensor and a device for raising an alarm, characterised in that the image signals supplied by the image sensor are supplied in an image processing device to a threshold logic which identifies as raw alarms pixels whose brightness exceeds a prescribed threshold and relays them to the image processing device, and that a counting and control device is used to carry out subsequent investigations of pixel quantity with the aid of which it is automatically decided which raw alarms contain objects of interest and raise alarms.
