An electronic starting device for gas-discharge lamps consists of an electronic switch, for example a triac (U2), which is connected in series with an autotransformer (N1/N2) and is connected such that it is driven by a voltage divider (R1, R2) so that the electronic switch (U2) is opened in every half cycle of the mains voltage.
