Arranged in the interior of the insert (3) disposed in a container (1) is a pre-evaporator (11) which has an inlet (12) at the bottom for the raw/starting product and opens at the top into the treatment chamber (2). The pre-evaporator (11) is surrounded by a heating jacket (18) whose outer surface serves as a heated treating wall (4). Applicator elements (6) which are moved up and down in the direction of the arrow A act together with this treating wall (4) in order to form a thin layer. A surface condenser (25) is arranged in the interior of the container (1) co-axially with the insert (3). The raw/starting product to be treated is pre-evaporated in the pre-evaporator (11) and subjected to final evaporation along the treating wall (4). The more readily volatile constituents condense in the surface condenser (25), it being possible for the condensate to be led off separately from concentrate precipitated during final evaporation. Such an apparatus is suitable, in particular, for recovering solvents. <IMAGE>
