PURPOSE:To execute switching at high speed, and to eliminate the need for adjusting an optical axis by bringing one of the terminal planes of right and left optical fibers to a contact movement alternately to two planes of the optical fiber terminal parts which are positioned in the center, making it contact and separate, and switching the connection. CONSTITUTION:Cores 10-A and 10-B are connected, and a light beam which is propagated through a bare fiber 1 in the core 10-A is made incident on the bare fiber 1 in the core 10-B. In this state, when cores 10-B, 10-C are moved in the direction as indicated with an arrow, and a state as shown in the figure (b) is formed, the light is switched as to its advance direction and made incident on a bare fiber in the core 10-C. Due to such an operation theory, the cores 10-B and 10-C move only in the center axis direction of the bare fiber 1, and its moving direction is different from that of a conventional system. In this way, a breakdown of the end face of the fiber is not generated, and also, as for a distance of the movement, about 5mum is enough, therefore, switching can be executed at a high speed. |
