PURPOSE:To attain variable speed reproduction stably over a wide speed range without noise, by controlling an applied voltage waveform to a piezoelectric bimorph so that a step difference being an integer multiple of a track pitch is maintained to heads scanning a tape. CONSTITUTION:At the variable speed reproduction, when a head 1, for example, scans a magnetic tape at present, a head 2 is shifted by a prescribed amount of step difference determined with the tape speed and the head present height to the head 1, allowing to change over the head switching without incurring improper response of the piezoelectric bimorph. While the head 1 scans the magnetic tape, a command is received from a control circuit 17, and a circuit 16 changes an output voltage by a voltage corresponding to the shift. The outputs of the circuits 15 and 16 are compared in the control circuit 17, and when the difference reaches this shift amount, the shift is stopped. |
