PURPOSE:To form an optical branching circuit element easily at low cast by coating an optical branching element and the joint part of a joint body formed by allowing optical fibers to abut on the end parts of the optical branching element with resin which has a lower index of refraction than the optical branching element. CONSTITUTION:A jointing jig 4 has a groove 41 in such a shape that the optical branching element 1 is fitted well therein and the optical branching element 1 is fitted in the groove 41. Thus, the optical branching element is fixed in the jointing jig 4 in an adequate state for jointing. Then, optical fibers 2 made of resin are made to abut on respective end parts of the optical branching element 1 and both are bonded together by using resin, etc. After the jointing, the branching element 1 and the joint part between the branching element 1 and optical fibers 2 are coated with resin which has a lower index of refraction than the branching element 1. Thus, the positioning of the optical branching element and optical fibers and jointing and coating operation are facilitated greatly and the optical branching circuit element is formed easily at low cost. |
