<p>A novel polyamine compound, N,N'-bis(3-aminomethyl- benzyl)-2-hydroxytrimethylenediamine, having the formula
<Chemistry id="chema01" num="0001"><Image id="ia01" he="19" wi="102" file="IMGA0001.TIF" imgContent="chem" imgFormat="TIFF" inline="no" /></Chemistry>is useful as hardening agent for epoxy resins and as a modifier for polyamide resins.</p><p>The compound is synthesized by reacting m-xylylenediamine and epichlorohydrin in the present of an alkali metal hydroxide and then removing water and alkali metal chlorides formed during the reaction from the reaction mixture.</p><p>A small proportion of an oligomeric by-product may be present.</p><p>The hardened resin is flexible and does not whiten.</p><p>The polyamide is also useful as component of a polyamide resin, which is flexible and impact-resistant.</p> |
