PURPOSE:To reduce the power consumption for heating a cathode and the load on a heater by decreasing the operating temperature with regard to an impregnation type cathode that is used for electron tubes such as a CRT and an image pickup tube. CONSTITUTION:The captioned cathode is composed of a porous substrate in which scandium oxide or an oxide particle containing it is diffused in a heat- resisting porous substrate and an electron emission material that is impregnated into the hole section of this porous substrate. The oxide containing scandium is either one of the oxide of rare earth Sc, (Al, Sc)2O3, SC2W3O12, Ca3SC2Ge3O12, (Ga1Sc)2O3, LiSCO2, LiSCMoO8, ScVO4, (Sc1Y)2O3, SC4Zr5 O16, and 8ZrO2.Sc2O3. The two kinds of these materials may be combined and used or a mixture of these materials with Sc2O3 may be also used. |
