PURPOSE:To contrive higher water resistance, developed color state and coating properties, by forming a thermal recording layer from thermal recording components (a color former and a color developer), a salt of a specified polymer and a metal oxide. CONSTITUTION:A thermal recording layer is provided which comprises a color former and a color developer as thermal recording components, a salt of a copolymer of at least one monomer selected from isobutylene, stylene and acrylic acid or an ester thereof with maleic acid or anhydride thereof, and a metal oxide. The salt of the copolymer functions as a binder for the thermal recording components, as a dispersant for the thermal recording components or as a combined binder and dispersant, according to the kind, the molecular weight and the amount of the salt used or other conditions. The metal oxide functions as a crosslinking agent for the salt of the copolymer or as a filler (or, optionally, a pigment), and is presumed to contrive to the water resistance or coating properties of the thermal recording layer through the synergistic effect thereof with the salt of the copolymer. If the metal oxide is not used, the water resistance of the thermal recording layer is poor. |
