1481778 Magnetic alloys BBC BROWN BOVERI & CO Ltd 29 July 1975 [31 July 1974] 31698/75 Heading C7A A copper hardened permanent magnet alloy contains cobalt, copper and at least one rare earth metal with an atomic number 57-71, and has a course grained (1 mu to 1.0 cm) matrix of where RE is at least one rare earth metal with an atomic number 57-71, O # x #1 and 0À15<y<0À35. The alloys are made by melting the stoichiometric quantities of Co, Cu and RE in argon at about 1400‹C and cooling at a rate of less than 50‹C/mu. Magnets with optional magnetic properties may be produced (1) from large single crystals by directional solidification or (2) by pulverization of the coarse-grained cast alloy, alignment in a magnetic field, pressing and sintering. |
