NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I [R1 and R2 are H, chloro, methoxy, ethoxy, etc.; R3 and R4 are methyl, (cyano)ethyl, beta-chloroethyl, etc.; X is -(CH2)4-, -(CH2)5- or -C2H4OC2H4-]. EXAMPLE:The compound of formula II. USE:A color-developing agent for heat-sensitive or pressure-sensitive recording material and an electrochromic substance for an electro-recording or displaying material. It affords electro-display having rapid response. PREPARATION:The objective compound can be produced by condensing 2- hydroxynaphthaldehyde of formula III with malononitrile of formula IV using an organic base as a catalyst and reacting the resultant benzo-2-imino-3- cyano-coumarin of formula V with a benzaldehyde compound of formula VI and a secondary amine compound of formula VII in an alcohol solvent under heating and stirring at 40-100 deg.C. |
