Novel benzyl ether derivatives of pentites of the general formula I <IMAGE> (in which 1 of the Y1-5 symbols represents -CHR1-R2, R1 representing H or C1-C4-alkyl and R2 representing aromatic hydrocarbon optionally substituted by one or more substituents selected from C1-C6- alkyl, C1-C6-alkoxy, -O-CH2-O-, optionally substituted phenoxy, optionally substituted phenyl, Hal, -NO2, -CN and -CF3, and each of the other 4 Y1-5 symbols represents -(CO)n-R3, R3 representing H or optionally substituted C1-C4-alkyl and n representing 0 or 1) have a plant growth-regulating action, being particularly suitable for influencing the vegetative and generative growth of leguminous plants, for example soya bean plants, and accordingly may be made up with suitable carriers into plant growth-regulating preparations and may be used for treating seeds, living plants and areas of land. |
