PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound useful as a raw material of fungicide and cosmetics, with short reaction steps and simple operation, under mild condition, by using a compound such as nitrogen containing aromatic 2-mercapto-N- oxide, etc. as a raw material and solvent in excess, and reacting the compound with a sulfur source under dehydrating condition. CONSTITUTION:The compound of formulaI(R<1>-R<5> are H, alkyl or aryl; R<4> and R<5> may together form a benzene ring) (e.g. pyridine-N-oxide) is made to react with a sulfur source selected from elemental sulfur, sulfur-containing metallic salt, mercapto-containing compound and mercapto-forming compound e.g. Na2Sx (x is integer), K2Sx, etc. and a metal hydroxide (e.g. LiOH, NaOH, etc.) under dehydrating condition to obtain the 2-mercapto-substituted nitrogen-containing aromatic N-oxide of formula II. The compound of formulaI is used in excess. The objective compound can be prepared using inexpensive reaction reagent with simple recovering operation. |
