PURPOSE:To improve an energy-utilizing efficiency of an engine through introduction of exhaust gas to a secondary expansion cylinder, by locating the secondary expansion cylinder in a middle position between two cylinders of a 2- cylinder 4-cycle engine. CONSTITUTION:A secondary expansion cylinder 3 is located in a middle position between two cylinders 1 and 2 of a 4-cycle engine. Exhaust paths 6 and 7 are open to the secondary expansion cylinder 3. An upstroke and a downstroke of a piston 16 of the secondary expansion cylinder 3 inverse against those of pistons 14 and 15. Combustion gas is guided to the secondary expansion cylinder 3 in synchronism with respective exhaust strokes of the two cylinders 1 and 2. Since the volume of the secondary expansion cylinder 3 is larger compared with those of the cylinders 1 and 2, combustion gas can continue to burn by a full difference in volume between them, and a surplus energy can be produced. This enables enhancing of an energy-utilizing efficiency of an engine. |
