PURPOSE:To prevent the discoloration of the substrate of a resin coated photographic support and an emulsion layer by treating paper with a compound having reducing power by which an electromotive force in a range of specified values is generated in a Pt electrode to a standard silver chloride electrode when measured by a specified method and by using the treated paper as the base. CONSTITUTION:Base paper for photography is immersed in an aqueous soln. contg. gelation, a fluorescent whitener and a compound generating 100-330mV electromotive force in a Pt electrode to a standard silver chloride electrode in an aqueous soln. for measurement prepared by adjusting a soln. of the specimen compound having a certain concn. to 3.0pH with a phosphoric acid-disodium phosphate buffer soln. Adducts of sulfites to lower aldehyde are not included in the compound generating the electromotive force, and aminomethanesulfonic acid, sodium p-toluenesulfinate or the like is used as the compound. The immersed paper is dried and calendered. The back side of the paper is then coated with polyethylene or other resin, and the front side is coated with polyethylene contg. TiO2 to obtain base paper for photographic paper. Photographic paper using the base paper is not discolored after development and exerts no unfavorable influence on other photographic properties. |
