A lagging mat especially suitable as a backfill mat has double hooks at both ends and in addition, at one of the two longitudinal sides, hooks or double hooks opening in the direction of the roadway side, the latter hooks or double hooks making possible a transverse bracing of the mats. In this arrangement, the double hooks provided at the mat ends are shaped at a distance from one another which approximately corresponds to the constructional centre distance between the roadway arches. Such a lagging mat can be placed as leading lagging via the transverse bracing in order to then also be used at the same time as final lagging without further re-hanging, since the double hooks pointing to the interior of the roadway and adjoining the mat ends are inserted into the roadway arches to be erected, i.e. the channel sections are simply put over the projecting double hooks of both adjacent mats. <IMAGE>
