For closing and opening a bulk transport or storage container having at least one elongate outlet orifice on its lower part, the latter possesses at least one flexible belt which corresponds in its length essentially to the length of the outlet orifices and is fastened at one end to the container and under which are arranged a roller or roller group of essentially equal length, supporting the belt in the blocking position and displaceable out of the blocking position, and members for displacing the roller or roller group transversely relative to the orifice between the two end positions. In order to close the orifice the more tightly, the heavier the content of the container, and to utilise the weight of the container content during the opening of the orifice and to bring about a "tumbling effect" in the container content when the outlet orifice is being opened, there are arranged on the container frame guide members for guiding the roller or roller group between the two end positions beyond a top dead centre and driving members for forcing the roller or roller group beyond said top dead centre. The belt can also be an endless belt which extends essentially over the entire width of the orifice and which loops round the rollers of the roller group. <IMAGE>
