The bush can be hollow cylindrical, conical or part-spherical rubber component to be frictionally located in a rubber metal assembly, and one or each circumferential surface is reinforced. This involves lining it with a thin-walled split sleeve secured by vulcanising. The sleeve may be metal and has axial slots dividing it into a series of angularly-spaced strip-like segments, leaving only single circumferential webs as bridges between pairs of adjacent segments. Rubber at the circumferential surface can thus be stabilised against permanent deformation. Radial rigidity is thus obtained and sliding friction at the radially inner and outer surfaces prevented.
