The aim of the invention is to produce a coffee machine which, with simple construction and low energy consumption, produces fresh coffe at short notice, in particular in small quantities. In known coffee machines with a filter device, in which coffee powder is infused with hot water, it is necessary, for coffee to be dispensed at short notice, to keep prepared coffee and/or hot water available in large quantities and for a relatively long time. According to the invention, arranged upstream of the filter device is a preparation container, into which a coffee powder supply and a cold water supply line open, and the preparation container is assigned a rapidly acting heating device for the water/coffee mixture. By rapid heating of a mixture of cold water and coffee powder, which is subsequently sieved through the filter device, good fresh coffee is obtained at short notice.
