The invention relates to a process and an apparatus for the washing and/or fulling of textile material guided in a strand, the strand being opened and reformed into a strand again repeatedly and in a controlled manner during the fulling and/or washing operation, this being practicable in that there is provided behind the rolling and/or washing zone a driven roller arrangement which forms essentially a segment of a circle or a polygon and the radius of curvature of which is equal to or larger than the distance of these deflecting rollers from the nipping rollers of the fulling and/or washing zone, and/or in that there is provided in front of the entry of the material into the rolling and/or washing zone a pair of guide rollers which consists of guide rollers arranged above and below the strand and which is made pivotable at an angle to the direction of run of the strand and expediently driving.
