The invention relates to an apparatus, in particular for high-pressure cleaning devices, for adding a cleaning agent to the stream of water used during this process. The apparatus according to the invention uses a solid body of cleaning agent and achieves a constant metering of the amount added without using any devices associated with a pressure drop, by virtue of the fact that the surface of the solid cleaning agent which is exposed to the stream of fluid remains constant whilst said agent progressively dissolves. Moreover, by means of a valve which can be actuated manually or automatically it is possible at any time to add the cleaning agent both during low-pressure operation and during high-pressure operation.
