Self-adjusting gap seal

The invention relates to gap seals on pressure-loaded spaces, especially for rotary movements. In order to achieve a gap which is as narrow as possible, for low leakage losses with simultaneous contact freedom, it is provided that the distance between the sealing surfaces of the gap is determined by a hydrodynamic bearing which is supported on at least one of the gap surfaces. In the further claims, configurations of the gap seal are shown using the internal pressure for compression, improving the sealing, and lubrication in various individual cases. <IMAGE>
