In a strapping channel built into a press, the disadvantage is that the part of the strapping channel built into the press ram is no longer in alignment with the remaining fixed part of the strapping channel when the end position of the press ram is slightly advanced, which can be brought about by leakage losses or elasticity. According to the invention, differences are compensated by additionally incorporating a compensating part of the strapping channel between the fixed part of the strapping channel and the press ram. This compensating part is fastened to the fixed part of the strapping channel to be slightly rotatable and its end lying on the press ram is carried along by a stop located on the press ram, in each case shortly before the end position of the press ram during the pressing stroke of the latter, thereby bringing about alignment of the parts of the strapping channel.
