In order to prevent long-term adverse influences on the fluid by the moisture and oxygen contained in the air, the fluid surface is often completely covered in a gasproof manner by a membrane (9), for example in the shape of a sack. According to the invention, this sack-shaped membrane (9) consists of rubber mats which are vulcanised to one another at the edges and are flat in the unloaded state, and the spatial shape of the jacket (6) of the expansion vessel, which is composed of metal sheets, corresponds to the shape of the membrane (9) when it is stressed from the interior by a small excess pressure. The shape of the expansion vessel and of the associated sack-shaped membrane (9), which are matched to one another according to the invention, can be used expediently when absolute separation of the fluid from the atmospheric air is necessary to the extent that special requirements are additionally placed on the long-term resistance of the fluid. <IMAGE>
