The slag emerging from a molten metal bath has hitherto been conducted into a container which is partially filled with water and granulated therein in the water bath by shock cooling. The slag obtained in this way as granulate was removed batchwise from the container. In accordance with the invention, continuous granulation of slags by means of cooling liquid is obtained by the slag-receiving container being in communication, via a granulation trough traversed by the cooling liquid, with a distributor container which, for its part, has on its discharge side two discharge conduits which are provided with valves and discharge into collection containers arranged separately from each other. <IMAGE>
