An isolating or load-isolating switch (1) has a contact arrangement (12, 21) which is fitted to a supporting insulator (13) that is supported such that it can pivot, and which is connected by means of a flexible strip (11) to a fixed-position terminal device (10). A resilient supporting element, in the form of a leaf spring (31) is fitted to the supporting insulator (13) which can pivot, which supporting element acts during switching on and prevents the flexible strip (11) springing through in the direction of the earthed components (frame 2). The flexible strip (11) is dimensioned such that it approximately assumes its extended position in the switched-on state and thus has virtually the minimum possible length. A block (32 and 33 respectively) is fitted in each case to the fixed-position supporting insulator (7) and to the supporting insulator (13) which can pivot, which block limits the bending radius of the flexible strip (11) close to its attachment points. In the switched-off state, the leaf spring (31) rests against the flexible strip (11) only at its attachment point, so that no supporting effect occurs until during the switching-on process. <IMAGE>
