Illumination system for a railway semaphore signal

With the invention, an illumination system for a railway semaphore signal is described, which comprises a burner arranged on a gas bottle and having at least one lighting system which illuminates a bundle of optical waveguide cables from which a colour signal generator which hangs down from the gas signal lantern can be illuminated. In such a system, it is possible to arrange this signal lantern at the foot of the signal so that replacement and maintenance operations can be carried out more easily. In addition, here in each case only one gas signal lantern per semaphore signal is required where previously two gas signal lanterns were always required. In an advantageous embodiment, two gas bottles are used per gas signal lantern so that the replacement intervals can be made larger in comparison with known intervals.
