The invention deals with a safety device for the independent shut-off of water lines during uncontrolled discharge of water, with an electromagnetic shut-off valve inserted into the relevant water line between network and consumer. In addition, a water meter with a rotor shaft driven by the water flowing through is inserted into the water line. The rotor shaft acts on a pulse generator with an electromagnetic counter connected downstream for the pulses transmitted in proportion to the water quantity which has flowed through. After a count corresponding to a preselected water volume is reached, the shut-off valve is actuated via a relay connected in series and is shifted into the closed position.
