A filter press includes a series of filter plates 2, each of which has a slurry hole 2a, and a pair of filter cloths 4 interposed between each pair of plates. Each cloth has a through hole aligned with holes 2a, and the marginal portion of cloth adjacent the hole is clamped between two plates 6,7 by bolts 8. The bolts belonging to adjacent cloths 4 abut when the press is closed, providing a gap 9 by which slurry is fed from aligned holes 2a into the spaces 14 between the cloths. When the press is opened the cloths can be separated and washed, e.g. while being wound on to rollers. In the press shown, alternate plates 2' carry inflatable membranes 13. <IMAGE> |
