PURPOSE:To exactly measure the shearing force of the ground by a method in which a pentagonally squared specimen prepared in field is covered with a box- shaped shearing box and while applying forces of couple to its upside through a pressing plate, shearing forces are applied to the side wall of the shearing box. CONSTITUTION:In desired ground in field, the upside and sides of a specimen 1 of a given size are cut off, the specimen 1 is covered with a shearing box 5, and a pressing plate 9 is placed on the upside of the shearing box 5. Then, a vertical load is applied to the specimen 1 for consolidation, and then a shearing force is applied to the side wall of the shearing box 5. Furthermore, force of couple are applied by a couple generator 18 to the specimen 1 through the pressing plate 9 in order to negate moments generated by shearing force, whereby keeping the upside of the speciment 1 horizontal all the time. |
