PURPOSE:To ensure the matching between the pattern information that is treated with a subject of connection and the size of a matrix, by controlling the position of an optical system which feeds the print information as well as the shift pitch for feed of paper. CONSTITUTION:When the print information is fed, a step motor 11 is first driven to set a zoom lens 19 at a prescribed ratio of magnification. At the same time, the driving step angle os a step motor 13 is set by a control circuit 15 and in response to the set magnification ratio of the lens 19. Then the motor 13 is driven by a driving circuit 14, and the paper 1 is shifted in a direction Y with a fixed pitch. Thus the print information is projected by an amount equivalent to a picture element line of a direction of X with every 1-pitch operation of Y direction. Then the picture information is led to a photoelectric converting part 10 via a reflector 18 and the lens 19. The projected pattern of a picture element line is converted at one time into electric signals at the part 10.
