A heat-resisting steel used for rolls such as glass forming rolls, continuous-casting rolls, specifically rolls for use under severe conditions of repeated heating and cooling, containing the following elements in terms of % by weight: C 0.01 - 0.20 Si 0.10 - 1.5 Mn 0.10 - 2.0 Ni 0.10 - 6.0 Cr 14.0 - 18.0 as basic constituents and optionally one or more of the following elements: Mo 0.1 - 2.0 Nb 0.05 - 0.5 V 0.10 - 0.5 Co 0.10 - 5.0 with the proviso that Ni+Co</=7.0, the balance being substantially Fe and unavoidable impurities.
