PURPOSE:To smoothly change output torque of an engine when its operational condition is switched from full cylinder operation to partial cylinder operatin or vice versa, by communicating the downstream of an intake shut off valve in an intake passage in an idle cylinder group side to a common intake passage through a bypass passage. CONSTITUTION:In case of application to a 6-cylinder engine, a normally driven operative side cylinder group A (16a-16c) and idle side cylinder group B (16d- 16f) inoperaive at a light load are connected to an intake duct 21 equipped with a throttle valve 22 respectively through surge tanks 11, 12, and the both tanks 11, 12 are connected by a connection pipe 24 in which an intake shut off valve 26 is interposed. While the both tanks 11, 12 are communicatively connected by a bypass passage 40 provided to detour the pipe 24, and a solenoid shut off valve 45 is provided in the passage 40. This valve 45 opens and closes the valve 26 and is controlled opening to circulate a slight amount of air when an operational condition of the engine is selected from full cylinder operation to partial cylinder operation or reversely to the above. |
